First step is to color correct the photo using iCorrect Editlab Pro Plug-in
Mike writes, “When I begin my creative Photoshop projects I like to start with a color-corrected base image, such as this long-lens shot I took from Griffith Observatory looking south toward downtown Los Angeles (yes, that is the infamous smog blanket…). The easiest way to make this color adjustment is to use the iCorrect EditLab Pro plug-in. You launch the plug-in from Photoshop and literally make one click on a neutral area in the image, and the correction is made! Of course you can make further adjustments, but often the first result is a big improvement.”

I didn’t get anything posted last week because I was enjoying a few days off at a friends cabin in Spearfish Canyon, SD. This is an annual guys trip to “open the cabin” for the summer. Spearfish Canyon is a gorgeous place and a photographers dream with so many scenes and sights to shoot. I have past the Kissing Rocks of Spearfish Canyon many times over the years, but never stopped to photograph them. Imagine the noise and danger if you were driving by as they broke off the cliff and tumbled down, landing just short of the road.

Spearfish Canyon Rocks-Photo color corrected with iCorrect OneClick Plug-in (click on photo for larger view)

I color corrected the original photo (left) in Photoshop using PictoColor’s iCorrect OneClick plug-in (corrected image in the middle) in seconds. With another click I created the sepia photo on the right which is the way the photo would have looked if it was shot in the late 1800s when Black Hills gold was discovered.

FREE Copy of iCorrect OneClick Photoshop Plug-in
You can get your own copy of iCorrect OneClick 1.5 plug-in for Free at http://www.pictocolor.com/email/free-icorrect-oneclick-offer01.htm. This is the 32 bit original version of iCorrect OneClick and will run in all the recent versions of Photoshop and Elements in 32 bit mode and is available for both Windows and Macintosh computers. (Note: it will not run in the 64 bit only version of CS6 beta.) iCorrect OneClick is a subset and entry level version of PictoColor’s flagship color correction plug-in, iCorrect EditLab Pro 6.0, which is compatible with both 32 and 64 bit versions of Photoshop.

Instagram experience

After reading about the $1B Facebook paid for Instagram I had to see what the phone app did. I downloaded the app to my Droid phone, signed up and proceeded to apply the Instagram “filters” to adjust the color to a photo in my phone gallery. I have to say I was not impressed. Admittedly, I am a bit sensitive about color and really don’t like “special effects” for the photos I share, but I simply could not get what I consider good color from any of the filters. And, to top it off when I tried to delete the edited photo (I did not want to share it on Facebook) I ended up deleting all the photos in my gallery. Probably my fault, but……. Fortunately, I had transferred the photos to my computer so all is not lost. I am sure the sharing and other features of Instagram are worthwhile and I am not questioning the wisdom of Facebook’s acquisition, but comparing the color correction/adjustment features to iCorrect OneClick I found that OneClick was a faster and easier way to Make the Color Right.

iCorrect OneClick color correction plug-in and iPhone APP Here is the photo I took with my Droid (left) that I corrected with iCorrect OneClick (right) by simply clicking on the white area on my granddaughter’s sweatshirt.

Droid photo (left) corrected with iCorrect OneClick (right) Click on image for larger view

If you have an iPhone you are in luck–iCorrect OneClick Color iPhone App is available at the App Store
I used iCorrect OneClick Photoshop plug-in correct the photo since iCorrect OneClick App is only available for the iPhone and not the Droid (I guess we should develop a OneClick app for Google and the Android). Here is a video which describes how iCorrect OneClick iPhone App will help you take and upload better photos to Facebook. You can buy iCorrect OneClick App in the App Store.

Maybe I just didn’t pick the right Instagram filter to get good color, but I did try most of them. And, maybe the pupose of the filters are to create special effects and not to Make the Color Right. In any event, I did find it easier and faster to correct the color using OneClick.

“I think knowing the background of how 1Click was developed from EditLab gave me an insight of how powerful Edit Lab is. Knowing this I can use it like 1Click or I can use further controls within EditLab. I believe that I am becoming a convert in using EditLab.” Jesse B.
